To reduce irritation by providing a protective barrier between the skin and surrounding moisture.

To soothe the skin and support re-epithelialisation while minimising further irritation.

Care Plans

Skin irritation

Where a resident has excoriation of the groin, breast(s) or skin fold(s) regular creams should not be used as they add to the moisture causing the skin irritation. A barrier film should be applied

 Swipe 
Step 1

Clean the affected area

Cleanse the area thoroughly, preferably in the shower, using a pH-neutral, soap-free wash.

Step 2

Dry the area very well

Carefully dab the area to ensure it is thoroughly dry.

Apply Barrier cream

Apply a minimal amount of barrier cream as a light smear; do not apply thickly.

Step 4

Skin folds

For skin folds (e.g. under the breast), once the barrier cream has dried, place a folded Zetuvit with the green side oriented away from the patient.

Repeat

Undertake Step 3 twice daily and repeat the complete procedure each day.
