Aim of Dressing

To support a moist wound healing environment for areas of breakdown while slowly managing pitting oedema and enabling antibiotics to act effectively.

Clean the legs

The patient has established bilateral lower limb cellulitis with pitting oedema and is unable to maintain bed-based leg elevation, requiring sitting out of bed.

Clean their legs

Where feasible, support the patient to shower and perform thorough lower-limb cleansing with a pH-neutral soap.

Apply inadine

Clean the wound using normal saline and cover with two layers of Inadine.

Apply mepilex border

Use Mepilex Border to manage wound exudate and prolong compression dressing wear time while avoiding bulky secondary dressings.

Wrap the legs

Apply cotton bandage using approximately 50% overlap, ensuring the printed oval indicators are appropriately stretched to form ovals, then apply the orange compression bandage in the same manner.

Measure for tubular bandage

Measure the patient’s calf, ankle, and forefoot circumferences and select appropriately sized tubular bandages. Two to three different sizes may be required. Apply each section with approximately 2 cm overlap. If tolerated, apply a second layer in the same manner.
