5th toe ampuation site

The patient, a young male with diabetes, underwent fifth toe amputation secondary to osteomyelitis and non-viable soft tissue despite conservative treatment.

Step 1

Setup sterile field

Prepare the sterile dressing pack and aseptically unpack sterile products onto the field.

Step 2

Clean the wound

Perform thorough wound cleansing, ensuring all areas and crevices of the wound bed are adequately cleansed.

Insert Aquacel ribbon

Insert the Aquacel ribbon into the wound. The width may be halved if required to facilitate insertion. Use a sterile probe or forceps to place the dressing into the full depth of the wound.

Dress with biatain non-adhesive

Do not use Biatain Adhesive, as it may roll at the edges and contribute to pressure injury risk.

Secure with hypafix

Secure the Biatain Non-Adhesive with Hypafix

**Optional**

Consider application of a suitably sized tubular stocking from toes to ankle to maintain dressing cleanliness.
