Support granulation tissue formation within the amputation defect to facilitate safe mobilisation.

Aim of Dressing

Debride bioburden and slough to facilitate granulation tissue development.

Orthotics (for darcoe shoe - forefoot offloading), Medical or Wound Care CNC to sharp debride the wound with a curette

5th toe amputation

The patient requires discharge without VAC dressing due to significant falls risk.

Step 1

Setup sterile field

Prepare the sterile dressing pack and aseptically unpack sterile products onto the field.

Clean the wound

Perform gentle wound cleansing to lightly disrupt and remove wound bed debris.

Remove bioburden and slough

Cleanse the wound with Octenilin. Pack the wound with dry gauze and saturate with Octenilin, leaving in situ for 10 minutes. Following this, have the wound reviewed by a CNC or medical officer for curettage/debridement as required.

Pack the wound and cover

Pack the wound with Aquacel Ag ribbon gauze and cover with Biatain Non-Adhesive.

Secure

Tape securely with Hypafix or Mefix as appropriate.
